What can you expect when visiting Homestead Church?

At Homestead, we want to be a church for the whole family and a place where people of all ages can connect, grow, and have fun! Everything we do is done with the hope of building community and growing faith. We like to stay engaged through weekly worship, Wednesday WASH, and small groups. Homestead has a long history in the city of Rochester, but we're new to the NW side of town. We currently rent space, but own land near Gibbs Elementary, with plans to build in the future.

Getting Here

You'll find us at: 6301 Bandel Road NW, Suite 503, Rochester MN. Currently we rent space within the Bandel Heights Business Center, also home to our local television station KTTC. Coming into the parking lot, make your way to the back of the building. Dress is casual, and first-time guests are never singled out. We celebrate Communion each Sunday. Everyone is invited to participate, whether you are a member of Homestead, another church, or have never been to church.

During the school year, Homestead offers two distinct worship services every Sunday morning, with coffee in between. We offer a more traditional worship service at 9a, accompanied by our talented pianist. This service often includes familiar hymns and UMC liturgies. At 10.30a we offer a more relaxed, modern service led by our house band. You'll here a mix of new songs and old hymns. We also have Sunday School for kids in preschool-grade 4 during our second service. Regardless of which service you choose to attend, a few things remain the same: we promise a warm welcome, weekly communion, hot coffee, and engaging worship. Most importantly: YOU, and your entire family, are welcome, exactly as you are today. From Memorial Day through Labor Day, we enjoy a time of #OneHomestead and worship together at 10am. In this service you'll hear wonderful music from our house pianist and worship band!

Children in Worship

We believe children are an essential part of our faith community. We encourage families to worship as is most comfortable and meaningful for their family. In addition to worshipping as a family, we offer these options for children:

Parent + Baby Room -- We know sometimes babies need a little extra, quiet space. This room is designed with you in mind! It includes a rocking chair, changing table, and soft, baby toys. Plus, audio of the service is streamed in! Please note, we encourage you to feed & care for your baby wherever is most comfortable for you; this room is merely one option. You are always welcome to stay in the worship area or lounge on the couches in the gathering space, too! We even have a kid space in the sanctuary!

Nursery -- We offer a staffed nursery for infants & toddlers (under 4) during every worship service. You are invited to check your child in before or during worship. A common practice is to begin worship with your child, checking them into the nursery before the sermon.

Sunday School -- during our 10.30 worship we offer Sunday School for our pk-4 crew. Families begin worship together, separating during the message. For kids in grades 5-8, we offer a Middle School Youth Group, which meets every other week after the second service.

Communion + Kids

Homestead practices an open table. ALL who desire to receive God’s grace are welcome. No matter what. Kids, too!  In fact, most every week, kids help serve communion, too! If you have questions, please talk to one of our Pastors.

United Methodist Church

During summer months, we have ONE worship service at 10am.

To learn more about each worship service we offer during the school year, read on:

Traditional Worship @ 9

Our earlier worship service is more traditional and grounded in liturgy and hymns. You're more likely to find our pastors wearing albs & stoles with classic hymns and piano accompaniment. The gathered community is young-at-heart and a blend of life-long Methodists and those new-to-faith. You're as likely to see a suit & tie as khakis & polos. Every worship includes communion and a staffed nursery. We also have a Van Ministry available if you need a ride, simply contact the church office.

Band Led Worship @ 10.30

Our second service is intentionally family-friendly and led by our pastors and band. Through songs, videos, communion, and a message we draw nearer to God and one another. This worship is casual. You're likely to see little ones dancing and participating in worship, hear infant's cooing, and see your neighbor uploading photos or reflections to Facebook. Every worship includes modern music, an engaging message, communion, and a special time for our children (in & out of the worship space).

Rev Luke & Rev Bethany Nelson, Pastors

Pastor Luke and Pastor Bethany were appointed to Homestead Church in 2015. Together, they bring a passion serving Christ in the church, community and world. They bring a breadth of experience in preaching, worship leadership, and a passion for the young and young-at-heart. Together, Pastor Bethany and Pastor Luke live in NW Rochester with their two sons. When not at church, you're most likely to find them at a park, coffee shop or gym.

Pastor Luke was raised in Mora and Lakeville, Minnesota. He received his BA in Religion and Political Science from Hamline University in St. Paul, MN.
